Unlocking the genius of nonspeaking kids
“As a nonspeaking autistic person, I had no way to share my thoughts with the world for the first 13 years of my life. Today, I am college bound.”

These videos teach individuals to be a communication partners for a nonspeaking students—an incredible contribution to improving the lives of these kids.
The client, Communication for Education, came to Erik Linthorst Media with the task of creating 25 hours of training videos for communication partners. These partners train to develop the skills, patience, and artistry needed to help nonspeaking autistic students communicate. I created upper thirds, title cards, transitions, quote sequences, and animated their logo—all to be mixed with footage to make up each training module.
Simple transitions created necessary breaks in the flow of instructional content. I used consistent brand colors and animated phrases according to the timing of the reading experience.
This project reminds me why I love the mind-expanding discoveries inherent in the work of graphic design. I was thoroughly impressed by the incredible things these kids have to say about their experience and how it shapes their point of view. The generosity and dedication of communication partners is humbling.
We have so much to learn by unlocking the genius of nonspeaking kids.
